A Contemporary Caterpillar Club Lapel Pin Archive vertical pinback (slightly loose)In metal with a bronze coloured finish, red enamels representing the caterpillar's eyes, measuring 19. 5 mm (w) x 4. 7 mm (h), two raised posts for uniform attachment, intact enamels, extremely fine. Footnote: These pins were awarded (on request) from parachute companies to pilots who successfully bailed out of airplanes. It was called "hitting the silk". Parachutes were made of silk, caterpillars make silk, and most of the pins were shaped like
