Turkey, Ottoman Empire. A 1St Crete Campaign Medal, C. 1869 Hold lightly soiled on the obverse(Atik Girid Madalyasi). Instituted in 1868. In a round medal in silver, obverse featuring an upward facing crescent moon and the cypher of Sultan Abdulaziz, the reverse presents the island of Crete under the inscription Girid (Crete) and the date 1285 (1869 AD), measures 36. 71mm (w) x 36. 76mm (h), weighs 26. 2 grams (including ribbon), suspended from a thin rectangular bar and worn on an incorrect ribbon, dark patina, light edge bruising, very fine
