The protective edge of the helmet in a magnetic steel. It is stamped "HS 36" ("HS" indicating the steel manufacturer, Hadfield Limited of Sheffield (1916 1919); and "36" the steel batch number) on the underside of the helmet at the front. The inside is hollow, missing its steel framed
