A round silver medal; the obverse depicting a rightward facing bust of Franz Joseph I, circumscribed by his name and title; the reverse inscribed Der Tapferkeit (German For Bravery), within a laurel wreath; on a loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with two repetition clasps; marked on A on the edge of the medal for the silver assay mark of Vienna; measuring 40. 29 mm in diameter;
